Gasworks Brewing: Seattle

This new place has been all over my and everyone else’s Instagram reels the past week or so, as it has just opened. So, naturally I immediately had to work out a run to it. There are a couple of good pubs, bars, breweries near lake union and easily accessible around the loop, but none are in as prime a location as this new place. While Fremont Brewing was right across the street from the dock, Gasworks brewing is right on the water. If you wanted to, you could sit with a beer and have your feet in the water. There is also dock space to pull up a boat, or like the majority of people, a paddleboard. I plan on doing this in the near future with a few friends. It appears that they brew the beer right there along the water (hence the name) as they have the big contraptions for brewing the beer right there.

The Run

The run was almost identical to one that I did last week, as they are right less than a mile down the road from each other along the same trail. So, it was another lap around lake union, but juuust about a full lap this time rather than a few blocks short. Probably 75 feet short this time. I ran around the lake the same direction which I am planning to switch up the next time I do a run around union. My starting point this time led me to have a bit of a run before the Fremont bridge and the easiness that follows that, which I think probably helped less in the overall difficulty of the run. Or the difficulty was because I turned down too early and ended up having to run straight up a flight and a half of stairs to get up to the bridge instead of turning on the road. I also went down the stairs right at the other side to keep the theme going, so no downhill for me. Running the Westlake portion is fairly straightforward, and same goes for through the park in south lake, which is home to one of my favorite small bridges to jump off into the lake. Going up Eastlake is where I got myself in to trouble though. The road is a very gradual big hill and I tried to hug the lake, which ended up with a straight shot up a steep hill coming over towards the bridge for the final stretch. At one point up it I had to start walking as I was gassed. Overall, the run was a total of 6.09 miles and took an hour and 5 minutes. Slow and steady wins the race this time. The miles got drastically worse as the run went on, starting with a 9:15 and ending with a 10:39. Average of a 10:15. My heart rate average was also 166, which is higher than usual even when I am going faster. Could be attributed to hills, stairs, and heat. Or maybe I’m just bad at running. Anyway, the run wasn’t too enjoyable but the scenery around lake union always is.

The Pub

Now, this brewery might be the best spot for the summertime in Seattle. It’s new so we can’t quite confirm that claim yet, but it very well could be due to location alone. It is fully outside with a window you order at, so it will be interesting to see if they are even open during the colder months of the year. Or if the longer-term plan is building a smaller completely indoors section. I met a friend there so we got to try 4 of the beers, 2 each. My favorite being the docksider, which was a pilsner. Stupid Bets was good as well. This place as a whole has all the vibes, out in the sun, on the water, picnic tables, everything. Perfect place to sit with a group of friends and jump in the water then have 1 million beers. I will definitely be frequenting this spot with my friends this summer.

Overall, the run was quite miserable given mostly the mistakes I made in directions but the brewery brought maybe the best vibes of any I’ve gone to in the Seattle area.

RATING: 8.6
