Now this is one that I am quite excited about. The Devonshire in Soho is a pub that has nonstop been coming up all over social media, with everyone raving about it. The biggest reasoning for that is people claiming that it is the “best pint of Guinness in London” which has got to be a bold claim considering the bar is only about a year old. That had to be put to the test.
The outside of the pub is incredibly cool looking. Putting it in an internet term, this place has aura. The darker green color, plants, and shape of the building really make it stand out amongst all other buildings that surround it. The building jets out in a triangular shape, with the “grand entrance” front door at the peak of the triangle. The hanging plants overhead line the entirety of the pub, along with the coat of style logo hanging out off the side of the building. I am not sure yet if that is commonplace for pubs to have, so perhaps someone can educate me on that topic.
I’ve seen the crowds of people gathered around outside at the nighttime drinking their Guinness on Instagram, and to be honest it looks like a lot of fun and the place to be. My visit, took place at around 3pm on a Monday so I, understandably wasn’t expecting that. And while it wasn’t popping off, there was surprisingly a couple of people standing outside drinking their pints. When I went in, there wasn’t a seat for me to take as there’s not an incredible amount of them, so after acquiring my Guinness I was forced to come out and do the same. The inside had the traditional pub feel, just much newer in terms of the building and furniture. It had a couple of sections walled off, making for cozier comfier sitting areas for conversation, which was pretty cool.
Once I gathered my pint I headed straight for outside, to post up against a wall of the building. The price of the pint was 6 pound something, which seems like a pretty decent price considering the popularity, location, and fancier vibe of the place. Perhaps that contributes to the popularity as the price seems to have stayed at a reasonable number. The walls of the building have planks that jut out so it is lined with a place to put your drink. Which in addition, adds to the appearance of the building. I wonder which one of those two points were the reasoning for them. In my opinion it’s got to be for the drinks. And for the Guinness, it was lovely indeed. First one in the UK after previously in Ireland and the United States, and it, as expected falls somewhere in the middle. Quality of Ireland can’t be matched anywhere, and the US drops off for the most part. It’s got to be a mix of the proximity to Ireland and places caring more about the quality of the pint, which this place does.
All around vibes and Guinness are on lock so as far as a place to go for drinks, this place gets a 9.2/10
